Track conditions:

Dry , fast ( with small “f”) beacuae of the slight, wheel rolling resistance caused by deep surface powder. Excessive speed in the early races took a noticeable toll.

Weather and Astronomy:

A low/slow setting sun in the clear WNW sky shown brightly during the first 3 races. Lite winds from WSW ruffled the infield flags during the first 4 races, then became calm after twilight in 5th race. As stars brightened, tempertures gradually declined to 44 degrees F. ( please click image to enlarge).

Significant Astronomy: Sunset in the WNW at 20:40, the Moon rose in the SE at 20:55 and was officially full at 21:02

Track Political Economy: ( again with runners, the puck, & cowboys )

FRD had lots of viewing competition. The local runners performed this afternoon and  VAncouver’s hockey team is competing tonight in semi-final competition. Therefore the handle was weak.  Based on Bucks, Races #6 & #7 were likely exports.

Of the 173horses entered  34% didn’t get in. Mega buck prizes  in local stakes races tonight.

After this Fri & Sat, frd will be dark for the next two weekends for the farshluginahr CLV Rodeo ( Victoria Day Holiday Weekend) . That is two weekends GCGC avoids supplementing purses for both runners & buggies.

Tonight 4 stake races were run for local youngsters with total prizes over $195,000. Conspicuously absent in the winners circle were entries representing BC’s premier breeder & owners Robert & Mary Murphy.

Race #1: $22,750 Stk for 4Yr old C&G
This race in particular, won easily by RS WILDCARD ( Masse/Vinnell), may have been an embarrassment for the revered Murphy establishment. In the 4 races since Masse/Vinnell claimed RS WILDCARD out of 4K claimers from Team Murphy, he has won  $19,750 and printed a new LFTM.

 Race #5  Clm8k, NW12k LT

This race had lots going on especially the stretch drive. I couldn’t grab large-format frames, so I reccomend you watch that portion of the replay. We will all probably see something slightly different. Here is what I saw. Please click image to enlarge.

race #5 Stretch drive

race #5 Stretch drive

1: After a wicked  28.3 Q3, head to head battle down the BS  Nf Star Power (outside) & Luv-U-2-Bye (middle) were measuiring each other as the velocity really slowed and the finish wire approached.

2:  Millbanks Fury (right), launched at the start, pulled back for a hole, and miraculousy advanced along the vacated rail. He was clearly the least “used” of the first three contestants, but lacked racing room.

3:  Star Power  realized  Luv-U-2 was beat and that Fury was the real threat. So  he used his left  wheel disk to put the squeeze on  both of them and maintained the “status-quo”. In this picture it appears Luv-U-2’s was directed to the right ( see head and posture), thus giving Fury the room he needed to advance.

4:Between pictures 3 & 4, Star Power’s pilot went to the whip for the first time in the lane. But it wasn’t enough to overcome Fury’s reserved pace.
